Will Modern Technology Overwhelm The Canyon Man?
By now, most everybody understands that modernity is here to stay and there's no going back. Modern technologies are everywhere one cares to look, and it's even been rumored that the Amish are going to be putting their horses in the latest footgear that's designed to get more than 50 miles per bag of oats out of them. There's no escaping technology, it seems.
All kidding aside about the Amish, it's still a fact that there's one guy running around -- who last updated his wardrobe when Dick Clark was a swinging young man fresh from Philadelphia -- around the neighborhood. Call him 'Canyon Man, ' and make sure to also call him a mechanic to help him repair the 40-year-old heap in front of his house he refuses to part with, even to the point of wanting to be buried in it.
Indeed, he's running around with a leather watch band and an old analog watch that was a gift to him from his father when he graduated from elementary school back when Lyndon Johnson was running the show down in Washington DC. And it's not all about nostalgia or his father, either; this guy really doesn't know what to do with a digital watch and would probably run in horror from it if you got him one.
In addition, Mr. Canyon Man can't bear the thought of giving up that beloved television of his. Everybody knows what it looks like, and the chances are fairly high that the wood the console was made of came off some sailing ship that went down off the Carolina coast during the War of 1812 or thereabouts. The picture tube crackles and hisses, but Canyon Man loves it with a passion bordering on something resembling what Rasputin the Mad Monk demonstrated on occasion.
For those considering tying Canyon Man down and gifting him with a custom LCD TV, forget about it. Not only wouldn't he even come close to touching it, but he probably would go into a catatonic trance if he heard the words 'digital video disc player.' At a minimum, he would go frothy-mouthed with rage at being forced to watch even a video cassette, not that he could probably announce the word anyway.
What will Canyon Man do when he realizes that the television he owns can no longer pick up signals without the benefit of something called a 'digital converter box?' He may just pass out after hearing the words 'digital converter box, ' in fact. He probably would also suffer a fatal cardiac event if he heard 'liquid crystal display' and how it's lit through means of LED backlight technologies. It'll be just too much for him and his brain, unfortunately.
For many of us, the fight that Canyon Man engages in to avoid all of the wonders of modern technology is important because we're the ones who are going to have to put up with him as we move into even more high-tech adventures. There probably won't be a seat on the bus for a guy wearing a leisure suit, let alone anybody having the patience to deal with the cloud of smoke from his car's exhaust.
why cant i play 3d games?
i am having the latest onboard graphic card and i am sure it supports 3d, the name of it is ATI technologies rage XC PCI 66, and i am downloading so many drivers not a single driver supports my card, i think i am simply wasting my internet charges by downloading
unwanted drivers
when i go to dxdiag test directX test works fine, but direct3d feature is missing and it tells me that i am using old driver
Umm that is *not* anywhere close to the lastest intergrated video. Matter of fact it's close to ten years old. I would be suprised if ATi still produces drivers for it.
