Video Camera not detected?
So i have this ancient camera. A Canon ES300V. Its been in the family for quite a while and I need to get some of the footage off of it to put on my IMac. I borrowed a Pinnacle Systems GmbH AV to USB2 converter from my uncle and connected the camera to it like I normally would the TV. Problem is that I can't find a driver for macs and I'm pretty sure that's what I need. Am I missing something here>
The Canon ES300V is a Hi8 tape based analog camcorder. You are correct that an analog/digital converter is needed, but the Pinnacle system probably won't work - generally speaking, Macs prefer to get their tape based video over firewire. In this case, you would need to use a firewire based analog/digital converter like he one from El Gato.
But you did not tell us which Mac - if you have a MacBook Air or MacBook with no firewire port, then you can't do this because they have no firewire port and no way to add one...
