Learning from a different perspective
(To see recent posts look to the left under “Recent Posts” or just click the “blog” link in the header, 3rd from the left).
What is this site about?
The purpose of The Gravy Way is to show that there is more to education than studying hard and getting good marks; at times, however, it is still important to keep these in mind
What will you find here?
- Attitudes on studying: Thoughts on how and why we can study harder & better. Viewpoints range from Buddhist- to business-oriented.
- Perspectives on education: The rigid lecture style of teaching has grown stale to many people. This site will challenge you to take responsibility for your education and mold it accordingly.
- Specifics: Techniques on note-taking, research, paying attention and crushing procrastination are offered here. These types of specific “how-tos” will be the focus of newer posts.
- Random Interesting Facts: Sometimes there are interesting finds from science magazines or across the web that I feel like sharing. For some reason, the phrase “pink noise” makes me laugh.
Where should you start?
The pillar posts (“Best of”) in the rightmost column showcases the strongest or most popular posts from the past. (If you cannot see the search box in the upper-right corner, you’ll have to scroll to the right to see the listing. Alternatively, you can just click the Pillars link in the categories section.)
Personal favourites include the following:
- Intelligent Attitudes Part 1 and Part 2 – Attitudes that will help you learn more in all areas of your life, not just within school walls.
- The Beginnings of Personal Growth – Danny’s first post and he does not mess around. He discusses getting real with yourself, even if it’s not pretty.
- Dedication: Screw the naysayers – Ignoring what other people say: there will always be people to get in your way, just run them over.
- Open your mind – The strongest attitude that encourages learning.
- Experiments in learning that don’t explode – Related to the above, how can you know if you are learning in your optimal way, if you have only tried one method?
